Vintage Gumball Machine Makeover

I have always wanted a vintage looking gumball machine. They just don't really go with my decor aesthetic. So I repainted one to match my home.

This is cute. But I knew it could be better. I wanted something that would match my style. I bought this one on Amazon.

I started by taking everything apart. Which was actually pretty easy. Just make sure you have the assembly instructions handy or take a video of the process so you know how to put it back together.

I know spray paint would have been easier but I couldn't find a color that exactly matched what I wanted. So I used Kilz Oil Based Primer and did 3 coats of it using a paint brush.

Once the primer was dry. I painted the machine with Antique White interior paint by Glidden in a flat finish. I did 2 coats of paint. Then put it all back together.

I decided to keep it on my counter for now. But I may put it on the stand at some point. I filled it with different kinds of M&M's and Candy Corn.

Here it is on the stand. I absolutely love how this turned out. I did seal it with a sealer called Gator Hide from Dixie Bell Paint Co. to protect the paint finish.
