DIY Kitchen Range Hood Update

We built this decorative range hood when we remodeled our kitchen. I love it but I thought it needed a more modern update.

I decided to build a new one over the existing one. I started by building a frame around the existing hood. I used materials I already had on hand to save some money.

Scribbled Underline

I came up a little short on the front piece and had to improvise. But I knew I could fix the seam with decorative trim. I used Glidden interior paint in a flat finish. The color is Antique White.

I added crown molding to the top with some decorative trim below it. For the bottom I used 1 x 6 and 1 x 2 pieces of select pine. I added decorative trim to the top piece of the 1 x 2.

I used corner molding on the corners to give it a more finished look and added thin strips of trim to cover seams and add detail to the front. I used wood glue to attach these pieces.

I'm so proud of how this turned out. It cost very little to do and made such a big difference in my kitchen. I love the clean, modern look it adds. Follow me on IG and my blog.
