We have this little area off of our front porch that was mostly dirt and lots of weeds. It was the perfect place to build this ground level deck.
We started by pulling the weeds and leveling the dirt. Then we laid down fabric weed barrier and fastened it with small stakes.
We built the frame on our driveway first because we wanted a flat surface. We built it in 2 sections using 2 x 4 x 10 inch pieces of pressure treated #2 ground contact Hem Fir.
Once the frame was built we transferred it over to its new home. We leveled the frame with little "feet" we made from left over pieces of wood.
For the deck we used 2 x 6 x 8 inch pieces of redwood. We spaced them with some scrap pieces of wood that are about 1/8 inch thick.
We finished it off with a piece of redwood on the front. Then stained and sealed it. We used Minwax Exterior Stain in Dark Walnut and sealed it with Olympic Waterguard in Maple Brown.
I love how it turned out. I can't wait until it's warm enough to actually sit outside. But the best part was that this only took a day to build and cost just over $500.
