An Evolution Of My Home

Do you love looking back and seeing how your style and home decor has changed through the years? I started my home decor Instagram account @simplyminedesigns in 2016. I thought it would be fun to look back and see just how much my little dining area has changed over the years. When we moved into our home 12 years ago I didn’t take a lot of pictures. I really started documenting when I started my IG account. So let’s start there. The year 2016. I apologize in advance for the horrible picture quality.

I mean, it’s not horrible. But it feels a little bare. The table and chairs were a thrifted find. I paid $50 for the set. The table was black and the chairs were lime green. Paint works wonders, Y’all! Let’s move on to 2017.

I actually really loved this look. My hubby and I made the bench and we were so proud of it. The table was from World Market and the chairs were from Overstock. You can also see a peek of my thrifted hutch. Moving on to 2018…

Here we have the table I thought was a good idea. We took a folding table and added a wood top. Although it wasn’t right for this space we still use it when we have guests over. And when we’re not using it, it folds for easy storage. The bench and chairs were from Overstock. Let’s see what 2019 was like.

I think this was one of my favorites. I’m not sure why I ever changed this. The table was a thrifted find. The wood chairs are from Poly & Bark and the fabric ones I found on Overstock. I love how cozy this looks. And then came 2020.

Same table. And I added 2 more of the Poly & Bark chairs. It feels so cozy and warm. I loved this look. But as a person who loves change. You know this didn’t last. Here’s 2021…

The year I was bored and thought Sharpie shiplap would be a good idea. And I had a thing for black. I do love this look though. The table and chairs are from Overstock and the hutch was my Mother In Law’s. My son now has the hutch in his home. In 2022 I went back to my love of thrifted. I found a table and chairs on Facebook Marketplace for FREE!

The chairs were in pretty bad shape so I didn’t keep them but I refinished the table. It was a labor of love but I love how it turned out. I used citristrip to remove the old varnish and then lightened the wood using wood bleach and tons of sanding. The chairs are from Houzz. The hutch was also a thrifted find. I paid $75 for it. And I made the faux fireplace mantle. We also got new flooring in our kitchen at the beginning of the year. Can you believe how much this space has changed over the years? Creating a home you love is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. But I’ve loved our home through every stage.
