Are You Home Decor Challenged?

Do you love decorating and home decor? Do you often feel stuck when it comes to styling certain rooms? We’ve all been there. Even professional interior designers get stumped sometimes. For me, it’s having a vision in my head but failing to be able to execute it. But I do find that when inspiration comes it helps to put it on paper. To write it down or draw it out so I don’t forget it. I get those moments of inspiration often times at night. I’m a night owl and enjoy the peace and quiet late nights bring. When the rest of the world is sleeping and it’s just me and my thoughts. That is also when I most enjoy blogging. I snapped this photo the other night, the house was so quiet and peaceful.

I’m sure most of you probably know by now how much I love interior design. I love being creative and decorating. But honestly, it doesn’t come easy for me. I have OCD and with that comes the constant need for things to be perfect. It takes me several attempts and undoing and redoing a space several times to get it absolutely right. And even when I think it’s right I’ll stand back to have a look and end up tweaking it again. I think that is one of the reasons the decor in my home changes so frequently. The more I look at a space, the more flaws I find in it. But decorating for me is like therapy. When I’m sad, stressed, irritated, whatever it is decorating helps. Although I do get frustrated when a space is not coming together the way I had envisioned it. I guess it’s a bit of an oxymoron. Take my eat in kitchen for example. I can’t even tell you how many changes this space has gone through. This is the most recent photo I’ve taken and it doesn’t even look like this anymore.

I hear people say all the time that they just don’t know how to decorate or they just aren’t that talented. But there are so many resources available to make your own home magazine worthy. I turn to Instagram and Pinterest often for design inspo. Home decor books and magazines are also great tools to use. Cozy White Cottage by Liz Marie Galvan https://amzn.to/2VTPKzP is a great inspirational book and one that I turn to often as well as Better Homes and Gardens, American Farmhouse Style and Country Living magazines. There is so much information out there, use it. Decorating is not for everyone and I get that. But if it’s something you really want to do and get better at, especially if you want to turn your own house into your dream home, do it. Practice makes perfect. And because we all have different styles. There is no wrong or right way.

“The best rooms have something to say about the people who live in them.”
