Hutch Styling Ideas

Fun fact: I love Facebook Marketplace. I have found so many beautiful pieces of furniture and decor on there. This hutch was probably my favorite find. And the best part? It was only $75 and in perfect condition. It was brown and although I didn’t mind the brown too much I really wanted this piece to be white. I love me some white! I think the key to finding amazing items on Facebook Marketplace is being able to see past the imperfections and see what it could be. Sometimes all it takes is just a little paint to give new life to thrifted finds. I always say that someone else’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Can you believe I only paid $75 for this? It’s huge and such a beautiful piece of furniture. I painted it in Antique White with a flat finish. I ended up keeping all of the original hardware. I also added this beautiful wallpaper that I was gifted by http://www.sandbergwallpaper.com to the back. Also used in this space here https://atomic-temporary-192892654.wpcomstaging.com/2021/06/13/bedroom-wallpaper/ I love the updated look the paint added while still maintaining the vintage charm that made me fall in love with it in the first place. The cute old lady we bought it from told us that she hoped it was going to a home that would love it much as she did. I sent her a picture after I got it all painted and styled and she was so impressed and said she was so happy it was being used so beautifully.

Hutches are one of my favorite things to style. It’s such a fun way to display all of my favorite things. The sewing machine belonged to my grandma. I love all things vintage so having this antique memento from my grandma is so special. I love having items in my house that hold sentimental value. Items that tell a story. Even if I don’t know the story behind it. I like to imagine it has one to tell. Whether it’s an item that is dear to me or one found at goodwill or while thrifting.

The fun thing about hutches and curios is that you can fill them with literally anything. From fine china to quirky collections. They make amazing storage pieces to display all the things. I like mixing different textures and pieces and utilizing every inch of space, including the top. Who says you only need to decorate the inside when you have all that space on top too. When I style any space, I like to layer and mix textures. Keeping spaces filled in by using varying heights, greenery, books, etc. To some it may seem overcrowded and cluttered, but it’s my decor style and it’s a style that I never tire of. Even with the beautiful arched detail on the top it just seems more complete with the decor on top.
